To Gag or To Smile…

Bank people1

While waiting in line at the bank I witnessed a man knelt down at the counter with his wife sitting on his knee. I was not intentionally eavesdropping, but I did overhear him say something about if his wife really loved him, she’d let him have a Mustang, or some such vehicle. There was laughter, and affectionate nuzzling of some sort.

For a brief moment, my mind didn’t know whether it should make silent gagging sounds, or if it should smile. At some point we’ve all wanted to shout, “Get a room” at a couple that was participating in ridiculously heavy doses of PDA. On the other hand, I know I’m not the only one that loves the Notebook, Gone with the Wind, and other Hollywoodized love stories. Where is the line drawn? Maybe it is at genuineness…

If this couple’s actions were genuine… if they were the type to hold hands in the quiet space of their own home… to giggle with each other over the silly things that life throws at them… to gaze lovingly into one another’s eyes… and if their pores ooze love and affection for each other NOT to entertain the people around them… but only themselves, then this was a great thing to witness. If only every married couple would be so lucky to have this kind of relationship.

On the other hand… we all know THOSE people, that probably either don’t speak or verbally abuse each other when no one watches, and then in the presence of others act like the lovey dovey-ist couple of people this side of Valentine’s Day… then this act would be worthy of some gagging.

But, I don’t know them… who am I to judge? I gave them the benefit of the doubt, they did seem quite genuine. I smiled, took their picture :), and thought to myself… next time Jesse and I are waiting somewhere, I’m going to use his leg as a chair…
