Not My Dog’s Poop

I’m an amateur blogger… maybe it’s a no-no to post pictures of poo. And what the heck is with me and poo… I literally just blogged about a Thunder Box the other day! (Don’t know what that is? Guess you’ll need to follow the link and read the post!)

I walk my dog on a nearby community path. It’s convenient and beautiful. I’m vigilant about picking up my dog’s poo. My dog, my responsibility. Oftentimes, I find poo in the park and garbage on the ground (seemingly from the elementary school crowd; mostly snack wrappers, although the other day I found a pretty cool multi-tool).

I have a choice… curse the littering perpetrators and irresponsible dog-owners, or simply pick it up and move on with my day. My community park… my responsibility? Something like that.

Most of the time I pick up the poop and some of the trash. Sure people should pick up their own dog’s poo and kids should keep their snack garbage in their lunch boxes, but I can’t police the world. What I can do, is little things every day to help keep my part of the world beautiful.

And before you start thinking I’m a saint (or before I start to puff up my chest a bit too much)… there is always someone doing more than me… and you for that matter. One day as I was leaving the park, I passed a lady with gloves on and a big trash bag. She wasn’t just picking up the empty goldfish bags at the edge of the path. She was literally crawling into the bushes cleaning things up. That’s awesome. Thank you Lady-that-I-don’t-know for doing more than your part, with no recognition, no pat on the back, no applause other than my little post, just because.

We live in a beautiful world, made all the more beautiful when we choose to do more than our parts. Cheers to the people we become and the world we create when we pick up other people’s dog poop.
